Hyderabad, Nov 28 (UNI)Telangana Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivas Rao on Sunday said that the state government was ready to tackle Omicron, the new Covid-19 variant, which was detected in South Africa.
Speaking to newsmen after conducting a review meeting with Health Minister T Harish Rao here, Dr Rao cautioned people to be alert by following the Covid-19 guidelines.
Stating that the Health Department is making all efforts to contain it, the Director said the Covid-19 fresh cases were steady during the last two days in the state.
He said that the new variant of Omicron cases were not registered in the country so far. The Centre was taking all steps for screening of passengers at all International airports across the country.
In the wake of caution of Coronavirus third wave by WHO, the state was ready with all arrangements to tackle it, Dr Rao said, the Covid-19 cases reported in the state were below 200 since the last four months.
Dr Rao said that the first dose of Covid vaccination was administered to 90 per cent of people and the second dose was administered to 45 per cent of people in the state.
Carelessness prevailed for taking vaccination after Covid-19 cases were reduced in the state, he said the vaccine will protect people from death after getting infected by Covid.
Everyone should must take two doses of vaccine, he said.
Dr Rao asked the people to follow Covid-19 guidelines like wearing masks, maintaining social distance and washing hands.
Telangana Medical Education Director Dr. Ramesh Reddy said investigation is underway on the new variant of Covid-19 virus. Asking people not to get panic on Omicron, he asked them to take Covid-19 precautions.
