TN LS polls : 933 Nominations accepted on scrutiny, 569 rejected

Chennai, Mar 29 (UNI A total of 933 nominations filed by the candidates for the April 19 single phase
Lok Sabha elections, including that of all prominent candidates of leading political parties were accepted on scrutiny by the Election Commission.
The scrutiny process that started on Thursday morning, lasted till late in the evening.
A final picture on the total rejections and accepted will be known later day.
After some objections raised about the nominations filed by some prominent candidates citing some
technical issues, they were eventually accepted.
Of the total 1,741 candaites, who have filed their papers, including 238 women, the nominations
of 933 candiates were found in order.
A total of 569 nominations were rejected so far.
Interestingly, in the Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency, where ousted AIADMK Leader
O.Panneerselvam is contesting, five nominations in his namesake were accepted. He is contesting
as an ally of the BJP, according to media reports.
For the bye-election to the Vilavancode Assembly seat, which fell vacant after a sitting Congress MLA had resigned after joining the BJP, 13 nominations were accepted of the total 22 filed.
A final picture on the total number of candidates will be knownn on Saturday after the last date of withdrawals.
The polls will witness a four-cornered contest between DMK-Led Secular Progressive Alliance and the fronts led by the AIADMK and the BJP, besides the Naam Tamizhar Katchi of actor-director Seeman.
AIADMK had already severed its ties with the BJP having lost the last five polls starting from 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 2021 Assembly polls, rural and Urban Local body polls and the bye-elctions to Erode Assembly seat.
