LS polls: Amit Shah holds mega roadshow in TN's Kanyakumari

LS polls: Amit Shah holds mega roadshow in TN's Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu), Apr 13 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday held a mega roadshow here in support of the BJP candidate and former Union Minister Pon.Radhakrishnan , who is contesting from Kanyakumari Lok Sabha constituency and also party’s Vilavancode Assembly by-election candidate VS.Nandhini.
Shah, accompanied by senior BJP leaders and Pon Radhakrishnan held the road show from Mettukadai Junction to the Old Bus Stand covering more than one-km stretch on the Thuckalay-Thiruvananthapuram National Highway.
The senior BJP leader standing in an flower-decked open vehicle waved and greeted the huge number of people, who gathered on both sides of the road, carrying party flags and the portraits of Shah, chanting “Bharat Matha Ki Jai” and “Meendum Modi, Vendum Modi” (Once again Modi, we want Modi) slogans.
Hundreds of BJP men and women also participated in the roadshow.
Addressing the party workers , the Home Minister appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been aiming for the country’s growth and security.
He said due to the corrupt rule of DMK and AIADMK over the past years, the State has failed to attain the expected level of growth.
Tight security arrangements were made by the police in view of the roadshow.
Shah, who was on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, held a roadshow in Madurai on Friday evening and he is scheduled to address an election rally at Tiruvarur. The Home Minister is expected to hold another roadshow at Tenkasi to canvass for the NDA candidates today.
The Kanyakumari constituency is set to witness a triangular contest, as the Congress, AIADMK and BJP parties have fielded Vijay Vasanth, Nazerath Pasilian and Pon Radhakrishnan respectively.
Vijay Vasanth is the sitting MP from Kanyakumari constituency, who won the by-election after the demise of his father H.Vasanthakumar in August 2020. Vasanthakumar defeated Pon Radhakrishnan in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
The by-poll for Vilavancode assembly constituency was necessitated after sitting Congress MLA S.Vijayadharani quit the party and joined the BJP recently.
The Election Commission of India announced that by-election to Vilavancode assembly constituency in Kanyakumari district will be held along with Lok Sabha polls on April 19 in Tamil Nadu.
