Former Navy Chief Admiral L. Ramdas passes away

Hyderabad, Mar 15 (UNI) Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas, PVSM, AVSM, VrC VSM (Retd.), former Chief of the Naval Staff (1990–1993) of the Indian Navy, peacefully passed away on Friday morning at the Military Hospital, Secunderabad, Telangana.
He was 90. He is survived by his wife, Lalita Ramdas, three daughters, their spouses, and three grandchildren. Respect may be paid from 1100 to 1200 hours on Saturday at Swarg Vatika, RTC Colony, Tirumalgherry, Secunderabad. In accordance with his wishes, no floral tributes are requested. The last rites will be conducted at 1200 noon, as per a defence statement.
Admiral Ramdas had a distinguished career in the Indian Navy, culminating in his appointment as its 13th CNS. Notably, during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, as commander of INS Beas, he played a pivotal role in executing a highly effective naval blockade of East Pakistan. This blockade thwarted Pakistan's efforts to evacuate 93,000 troops, leading to their eventual surrender to Indian forces. For his gallantry, he was awarded the Vir Chakra.
