IAF, Indian Navy join hands to operationalise Radar Simulator at INS Hansa

Bengaluru, Mar 22 (UNI) In an attempt to leverage indigenous expertise for advanced training and operational capabilities, the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy have collaborated to operationalise a Radar Simulator at INS Hansa.

This simulator developed entirely in-house at the Software Development Institute (SDI) of the IAF in the city here, was completed within a record timeframe of eight months.
The SDI is a key establishment within the IAF specialising in avionics software design, development, integration, testing, and airworthiness certification.
The collaboration involves the Indian Navy providing hardware while the IAF contributes the operational software. The simulator includes components such as a Surveillance Radar Element (SRE), Precision Approach Radar (PAR), Instructor Workstation, Record & Replay, and Voice elements.
The simulator is designed to meet the training needs of Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) at various training institutes. Additionally, plans are in place to operationalise this system at five naval bases and 50 airbases of the IAF, Defence PRO stated.
There are indications of further collaboration between the two services, particularly in avionics system integration, including sensors, weapons, and Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology. This collaboration signifies a step towards enhanced inter-service jointmanship.
