Bengaluru shopkeeper assault: Police contemplating action against victim, alleges Surya

Bengaluru, Mar 19 (UNI) Accusing the Congress government of "lacking in commitment" to unbiased law enforcement and justice, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday alleged that the police are contemplating action against the victim and letting scotfree the perpetrators of the Bengaluru shopkeeper assault case.
"Instead of protecting the interest of Mukesh who is the victim in this case, and instead of asking the police authorities to conduct the investigation expeditiously and arrest the accused, the police are contemplating action against the victim himself. And those who want to support him and demand justice, are detained. This is an unfortunate reality of Karnataka today," Surya told reporters here.
Surya also accused the Siddaramaiah government of prioritising vote bank politics over delivering swift justice.
"The government instead of trying to give Mukesh swift justice is trying to defend those who have perpetrated this crime only because it suits its vote bank politics. Who is doing politics here? We are asking the police to act professionally, in an unbiased manner, in an impartial manner. This is our demand. What is politics in this?" he argued.
Surya also claimed there were instances where the government has defended criminals or misled the public for political gain.
Firstly, he mentioned an incident where Pakistan Zindabad slogans were allegedly shouted near Vidhan Soudha, and despite initial denial by government ministers, forensic evidence later contradicted their stand.
Secondly, he referred to the bomb blast at Rameshwaram Cafe, where the government allegedly prematurely dismissed the possibility of terrorism and instead attributed it to business rivalry.
"This is not the first time that this government and its ministers have come out in defence of the indefensible. A few weeks ago when Pakistan Zindabad slogans were shouted in the precincts of the Vidhan Soudha, three cabinet ministers said this had not happened. And the FSL report torpedoed the defence of the Congress ministers.
"A week thereafter there was a bomb blast in Rameshwaram Cafe. Even before the police gave any preliminary report, the Congress eco-system said it was a cylinder blast and denied a terror angle. Why do you come in defence? Why do you jump?
"And when it was clear that it was a terror blast, then they said it was business rivalry angle. Why do you try to pre-empt the investigation? Why do you try to guide the investigation in a particular manner that suits you? So the ones who are trying to do politics is the Congress party here," he posed.
Surya also accused the government of interfering with investigation to suit its narrative and urged investigating agencies to conduct impartial and professional inquiries.
"We are asking the investigating agencies to behave and conduct an investigation professionally. And unfortunately, the victim today is kept under arrest, while one perpetrator, one accused is still roaming free," he said. UNI BDN SSP
