ICAR-CIBA voices concern on pearl spot farming sector, seeks support of govt

Kochi, Aug 11 (UNI) Voicing concern on the below-par performance of pearl spot (Karimeen) farming sector in Kerala, the Chennai head-quartered Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) has sought the support of state government to boost the aquaculture production of the fish.
It is high time that the state had a road map for the successful utilisation of highly prospective brackishwater resources of the state towards the betterment of pearl spot farming practices in Kerala, said Dr K K Vijayan, Director of CIBA while speaking at a webinar held for fish farmers on Tuesday.
"Even as the fish has a huge demand and market value in the state, the pearl spot farming sector is on a stagnation, unable to yield expected output given the potential resources," he added.
