New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) The Centre saved Rs 6,320 crore by suspending Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) during FY21 and part of FY22.
The funds saved from the suspension of the scheme have been used to ramp up health infrastructure, provide free ration under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana and free vaccination, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Planning Rao Inderjit Singh told Rajya Sabha on Monday.
In the wake of Covid pandemic, the government had decided to not operate MPLADS for two years and place the funds at the disposal of Finance Ministry for managing the adverse impact of deadly virus.
