There is 'zero tolerance' on sexual harassment against women in Congress: Renuka

There is 'zero tolerance' on sexual harassment against women in Congress: Renuka

New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) The Congress party on Tuesday said there is "zero tolerance"
in the Congress party for any allegation of sexual harassment against women in the
intra party forum.

".....having given Presidents and Prime Ministers from Congress party and the first woman
President .....there is zero tolerance for such laxity," Congress leader Renuka
Chowdhry told CNN News18 TV channel.
She said whenever there is any such case (of sexual harassment), the victim or the complainant can go and report the matter to a senior colleague.
Asked whether the Congress party has an internal cell to deal with sexual harassment issues
like the companies, Ms Chowdhury asked: "Is it there in any other party"?
Ms Chowdhury, who served as Minister of Women and Child Development in Manmohan
Singh government, said unlike corporate houses, in political parties - "structure
within a political party is such that most of it is voluntary and there is no employment".
The Congress leader's reactions came shortly after BJP stepped up attack on
Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his tweets on alleged lack of safety for women
in India and said the Congress party stands exposed with their leaders getting
embroiled in the murder of their wives and reports of sexual harassment at the
social media office of Congress party.
BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said: “A former social media team member of
Congress party has filed a complaint against a co-worker who works under direct
supervision of Divya Spandana, social media in charge of Congress party.
'We appeal to Delhi Police to register an FIR and also ensure the safety of the lady
who has complained of sexual harassment at the social media office of Congress party".
Even in the past such charges have surfaced against the Congress party, she said and
also referred to cases in UP the high profile case involving Congress MP and former
union Minister Shashi Tharoor.
In a tweet, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya sought an answer on the issue from Congress president
Rahul Gandhi.
"Rahul Gandhi and Divya Spandana must answer why the victim of sexual harassment didn’t even get a hearing let alone justice till the BJP raised the issue. Are women in Congress social media team fair game for anyone in the Congress party," he wrote.
