New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) The 1993 batch IFS officer Sunjay Sudhir, presently Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, was on Monday appointed as India's next Ambassador to the Republic of Maldives.
According to an official announcement by the Ministry of External Affairs, he is expected to take up the
assignment shortly.
In another communique, the Ministry said that Vijay Singh Chauhan, Consul General at the Consulate General of India, Sao Paulo in Brazil has been appointed as the Ambassador of India to Burkina Faso.
"He is expected to take up the assignment shortly," the official release said.
It may be mentioned here that the Modi government has lately tried to improve relations with the Maldives especially after Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took over reins of the country after a fiercely contested elections.
President Solih visited India on December 17 and during his stay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and both sides pledged to improve bilateral ties.
Mr Modi had visited Male during the swearing-in ceremony of new dispensation headed by Mr Solih in November 2018 after a keenly watched election.
