New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday recalled what Mahatma Gandhi had said about Ramayana that Ram Rajya was the ideal system on the basis of which an "ideal public welfare state’’ could be conceived.
In a write-up on social networking site Facebook three days ahead of Bhoomi Pujan for Ram temple at Ayodhya on August 5 the Vice President said Mahatma Gandhi had written in ‘Young India’ in 1929 that Ram Rajya was
undoubtedly a true democracy in which even the smallest citizen could get speedy justice without any expense or lengthy process, was accessible and sure.
"According to the poet of Ramayana, justice was accessible even to the dog..’’
"Ram Rajya is the ideal on the basis of which the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi conceived an ideal public welfare state,’’ Mr Venkaiah Naidu said.
Mr Naidu said that in ‘Young India’, Mahatma Gandhi had written in 1929 "I do not know whether Ram of my imagination ever took birth on earth, but Ramayana's ideal Ram Rajya was undoubtedly a true democracy.’’
The Vice President said Lord Ram’s life character, dignity and beliefs were revealed in which there is loyalty to truth, peace, harmony, inclusive coordination and cooperation, compassionate justice and devotion.
"There is sacrifice, there is sympathy. This value is the basis of Indian life philosophy, which are timeless and universal, going beyond the boundaries of country and time. It is natural that Ramayana is equally relevant today,' the Vice President said.
