Rajnath cites Mandsaur poll win to counter Cong campaign against BJP on farm issue

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday cited BJP's electoral 'victory' in Mandsaur region in Madhya Pradesh and said the poll outcome in the epicentre of farmers’ agitation only proves that the Congress had indulged in unfounded campaign in the region.
"They had leveled all sorts of allegations against BJP government. But today, I have the pleasure to tell you all that we won seven seats in the region. The country's farmers know the real intent of Congress party in spreading these falsehood," Mr Singh moving a resolution on farm issue at the party's National Convention here.
"Out of eight, we won seven assembly segments. And only one seat, we lost, the defeat margin was a mere 500 votes," said former BJP president at the meet being attended by 12000 leaders, office bearers, all BJP chief ministers, MPs and elected state legislators.

Pipliamandi in Madhya Pradesh where five farmers were shot, comes under Malhargarh assembly constituency, while one farmer lost his life in Daloda, which is part of the Mandsaur constituency.
Notwithstanding the farmers’ agitation that rocked Mandsaur region in Madhya Pradesh in June 2017, where six farmers lost their lives to police firing and lathi charge, the BJP candidates from Malhargarh and Mandsaur have won in the recently held polls.
On the contrary, Rajnath Singh said, in Karnataka - where Congress is in power with JD(S), the farm loan waiver has come a cropper as warrant are being served to those farmers who have not able to repay their loan amount.
"The Congress has always betrayed farmers and misled them and despite being in opposition, they are still up their games," the Home Minister said.
In this context, he said the Modi government has taken a number of steps to help farmers, double their income by 2022 and also to mitigate their grievances.
"Our Prime Minister will not hesitate to take all measures....We have taken a number of steps for farmers, but we are not satisfied with that. We will have to do a lot. Our Prime Minister is still not satisfied vis-a-vis the works done in the farm sector," Mr Rajnath Singh said.
The former BJP president Mr Rajnath, under whose organisational leadership BJP had won the 2014 polls, said that zero per cent loan for farmers was started first in any state by the B S Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka.
He said similarly, BJP government in Chhattisgarh under Raman Singh had taken the first major decision to ensure 'food security' among the people.
The resolution was seconded by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
"For decades, there used to be only talk about farmers. It is for the first time, a sincere government under the leadership of PM Modi has worked for the farmers," he said.
Sources said the only such meeting before the general elections due by March-April this year will focus on the Narendra Modi government's outreach to different sections of society.
The two-meeting would also coincide with the Parliament giving its nod to the much debated 124th Constitution Amendment Bill that would guarantee 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections among general category.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi deliver his speech at the valedictory session on Saturday.
"The Parliament nod to the Constitution Amendment Bill providing 10 per cent reservation in jobs and education for economically weaker sections in the general category or to be more precise the Upper Castes has boosted our prospects and morale of the party workers," a party leader said.
The move will help the right wing party consolidate its core vote of upper castes in the Hindi-speaking as well as other states.
Due to government's stance on Prevention SC-ST Atrocities Act, a section of upper castes BJP supporters were annoyed with the party leadership. BJP leadership now believes the perceived grievances of communities like Jats, Patidars and Marathas could be addressed now.
BJP leaders say the party president Mr Shah has already set the tone for the general elections by making a big push for the construction of a grand Ram Temple at Ayodhya.
"BJP karyakarta aswasht rahe, hum sambhidhan ke route se Ram Mandir Banane ke liye kati vadh they, aur aaj bhi hae (BJP workers should be rest assured that we have been committed to construction of a Ram Temple at Ayodhya through constitutional route and we are committed to it today also,)" BJP national president said in his presidential address.
