Cong committed to protect land, forest and water of tribals: Kharge

New Delhi Mar 12 (UNI) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday said that the party is committed to protect the land, forest and water of the tribals in the country.
He said the party will set up a national mission to effectively implement the Forest Rights Act, when it comes to power.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here, Kharge alleged that the Narendra Modi government has given forest land to his industrialist friends. When the Congress party will be voted to power, the first thing it will do is secure the land of the tribals.

The Congress President also alleged that the Modi government had made several amendments to Forest Conservation and Land Acquisition Acts, but the party will withdraw all such amendments that were a cause of distress to the Adivasis.

He said that the Congress party had always worked dedicatedly for the betterment of the people of the country unlike the BJP, which believes only in “Jumla”.

“Our intention is remove the poverty from the country, bring them oppressed class into the mainstream and give them good education,” Kharge said.

The AICC President said that as the party has guaranteed legal status to MSP, in the same way it will also cover Minor Forest Produce (MFP).

He said the party will also revive the Special Component Plan for Scheduled Castes and the Tribal Sub Plan which was abolished by the Modi Government in 2014. The Sub-Plan would be made enforceable by law, as done by Congress Governments in some states.

The Rajya Sabha MP while accusing the BJP government of ruining the future of the youth by denying those jobs, said that there were 30 lakh permanent vacancies which were yet to be filled, but the government is not filling up these posts. Instead, it wanted to give jobs on contract basis.

He said soon the party will come up with some more guarantees and they will be put in front of the public during the concluding day of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
