Delhi Assembly cancels scheduled sitting for today

New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) The Delhi Assembly on Friday cancelled the scheduled sitting of the house slated for March 22, i.e., today, and set the next sitting for March 27 at 11:00 AM.
This comes after the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday evening in a money laundering case related to an alleged liquor policy scam.
The Legislative Assembly Secretariat has issued orders regarding the cancellation of the sitting of the House.
A team of the ED yesterday evening reached the residence of the AAP chief for questioning hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him any protection in money laundering linked with the excise policy case.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED during a search operation conducted at his residence.
The party termed the arrest of Kejriwal the BJP's political conspiracy.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, AAP leader Atishi said, “This is for the first time in the history of India’s democracy that a sitting CM has been arrested by the Central government after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. Even the Jharkhand Chief Minister resigned before his arrest. Arvind Kejriwal's arrest is the BJP's political conspiracy."
“Arrest in an investigation in which recovery of a single rupee of the proceeds of crime has not taken place even after two years of investigation. This only shows that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scared of Arvind Kejriwal; he feels there is only one leader in the country who can challenge him,” Atishi added.
The party filed a petition seeking an urgent hearing from the Supreme Court to challenge the arrest of Delhi CM and also called for an All-India protest for Friday, i.e., today.
AAP leader Sandeep Pathak, during the party’s mid-night press conference after Kejriwal’s arrest, said, “We don't know such politics of giving and taking, but we know how to fight for the country. I want to say to the Bharatiya Janata Party: if you have courage, then fight in the election field. Why are you attacking from behind by making these false cases? This is no longer the fight of the AAP alone. Now it is the fight of every family who wants corruption-free politics.”
