L Adimoolam elected president of Indian newspaper society

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) Mr L Adimoolam of the publication ‘Health and the Antiseptic’ was on Friday elected as the president of the Indian newspaper society.

He succeeds Mr Shailesh Gupta of Mid Day.

Mr D D Purkayastha of the Amrit bazaar patrika was elected the Deputy president of the INS at its Annual general body meeting held at Bengaluru on Friday while Mohit jain of the Economic Times has been elected as the vice president and Mr Rakesh Sharma of the Aaj Samaj has been elected the Treasurer of the society for the year 2020-21.

Ms Mary Paul has been elected the Secretary general of the society.

The other members of the INS include Mr S Balasubramaniam Adityan of the Daily Thanti, Girish Aggarwal of the Dainik Bhaskar in Bhopal, samahir bal of the Pragativadi, Gaurab Chopra of Filmi Duniya, Vijay Kumar Chopra of the Punjab Kesari in jalandhar, Karan rajendra darda of the Lokmat in Aurangabad, Vijay Jawaharlal darda of the Lokmat in Nagpur, Pradip gupta of the Dataquest, Shivendra Gupta of the Business Standard, Shivendra kaur of the Ajit, R Lakshmimati of the Dinamalar, Tanmay Maheshwari of Amar Ujala, Pratap c pawar of Sakal, Rahul Rajkhewa of the Sentinel, Atideb Sarkar of the Telegraph, Parveen Someshwar of the Hindustan Times, Vinay Verma of the Tribune, Ravindra Kumar of the Statesman, Jayant Mamen Mathew of the Malayala Manorama and Shailesh Gupta of Midday.

In his address, the outgoing president of the society Shailaesh Gupta said that due to the Covid pandemic, shrinking readership and advertisement revenues, rising costs and an onslaught of the digital media have taken a huge toil on the financiqal health of the media industry which necessitated urgent need to reinvent, explore new revenue models, effective cost cutting measures and improving contents.

‘’The print industry needs to emphasize on quality and credible journalism,’’he said.

Noting that the entire print industry is in a turmoil due to the Covid pandemic lockdown, Mr Gupta said that the INS has sought urgent relief from the government on the collapsing newspaper sector and requested for various measures.
