New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) More than four and a half crore Coronavirus tests have been conducted so far in the
country, making India the second country to do so many tests.
This apart, 11,72,000 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours, which is a record in itself, Health Ministry
spokesman and Secretary Rajesh Bhushan told a press conference here on Thursday.
He said it was a matter of relief for India that the number of people who beat Covic-19 infection had increased to around 29,70,000 and on September 2, a record 68,584 patients recovered, the maximum number so far.
He said in the month of April in the country, the Covid test figures were only 10,000 a day, which had increased to 50 lakhs in June and till now, four and a half crore people have been tested. Yesterday, 11,72,180 tests were conducted in the country.
The rate of recovery of Covid patients in the country was also increasing significantly and in May, this figure was 50,000, in the third week of August, it had increased to 2 million and till date more than 29,70,000 recoveries from infection have been recorded.
There were currently 8,15,538 active patients in the country. In India, there were 2,792 cases of Covid infection per million population while in the US the figure was 18,900 and in Brazil 3,359 per million population. In the country where 49 people per million were dying from corona, the world average was 111 per million population and in other countries it is 500 to 600 per million.
He said there were five states in the country where 62 per cent active Covid cases are being observed and of these 25 per cent cases are in Maharashtra alone. Apart from this, 12.5 per cent are seen in Andhra Pradesh, 12 per cent in Karnataka, 7 per cent and 6.5 per cent in Tamil Nadu and 37.5 per cent cases are from other states.
He said more than 11 and a half million Covid tests were done in the country yesterday and the figures of patients found to be positive on a daily basis is 7.2 per cent, while the overall figure is 8.4 per cent and weekly it is eight per cent.
Indian Council of Medical Research Director General Dr Balaram Bhargava said the second serological survey has started in the country and it has been completed in 50 districts and work on it has been completed in 70 districts. Its results will be revealed in the next two weeks.
On a question related to increase in the number of Covid cases and deaths in the capital Delhi in the recent past, Mr Bhushan said that the Ministry of Health is deliberating with the Government of Delhi on the guidelines of the Union Home Ministry to consider this subject. Seeing the increase in cases, it was being considered which activities can be controlled.
