Prez Kovind urges people to celebrate Chhat puja with caution

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday greeted the people on the occasion of Chhath Puja and urged them to take a pledge to conserve nature and celebrate the festival keeping Covid-19 pandemic in mind.
"Greetings to fellow citizens on Chhath Puja. May 'Chhath Maiya' bless all the citizens with good health and prosperity. On this auspicious occasion, let us resolve to preserve nature and environment and celebrate the festival keeping in mind the spread of Covid-19," tweeted Mr Kovind.
This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, several restrictions were imposed on all the festivals, including Chhath, which involves a large number of devotees standing in the water of ponds or lakes and making offerings to the deity at sunset and sunrise. With the surging cases, this was seen as a cause of concern as it may spread the infection thus leading several states to restrict some activities by not allowing community celebrations.
The four-day festival began on November 18 and will conclude on Saturday after devotees have offered their prayers to the rising sun.
