Northeast region people want to get rid of BJP: Cong

New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) The Congress on Monday claimed that it will clean sweep the Northeast region in the upcoming Lok Sabha election as there was a strong undercurrent in its favour and the people want to get rid of the BJP.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh accompanied by Chairman Social media & Digital platforms Supriya Shrinate said, “The wave in favour of Congress is visible. People have now understood that only the Congress can protect the diversity in the North Eastern states”.

He said, “The people of the region are worried about their diversity on the basis of faith, language, and food is under threat. The people there have understood that the only option to remove BJP is Congress”.

Ramesh also accused the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma of using all sorts of strategies to obstruct the party candidate from Jorhat Lok Sabha seat Gaurav Gogoi. Adding that the people of Assam will give a thumping majority to Gogoi.

He also slammed the Prime Minister for neglecting the Northeast region especially Manipur which has been burning since last one year.

The Congress leader said, “PM Modi visits Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka repeatedly but he does not have the courage to go to Manipur. Election will be held on April 19 but he has not gone there for campaigning. The state has been burning since last year and Mr Modi is silent. Even when replying during the no-confidence motion, the PM spoke for just three minutes on the issue of Manipur”.

The party also launched a campaign song titled “Haath Badlega Halaat”.

Talking to the media, Supriya Shrinate said, “Our campaign is based on the ‘five pillars of justice as promised by the Congress. We have prepared these pillars of justice by talking to the people keeping in mind their dreams and hopes. We are talking on all issues that Modiji has failed to address and our campaign song is related on this”.
