EC again bans BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh from campaigning for Delhi polls

EC again bans BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh from campaigning for Delhi polls

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) The Election Commission on Wednesday banned West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma from campaigning for Delhi assembly election, for calling Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a ‘terrorist’.
According to the poll body, the BJP MP is barred from campaigning for 24 hours, starting from today, ie, till the end of the campaign period, as Delhi is going for polls on February 8.
Earlier, Mr Sahib Singh Verma had been banned from campaigning for 96 hours for hate speech against anti-CAA protesters in Shaheen Bagh.
Condemning Mr Sahib Singh Verma’s statement, the Commission pointed out that they had earlier passed an order barring him for four days from campaigning for his statements.
“The Commission is of the considered view that Mr Sahib Singh Verma made vitriolic aspersions against Arvind Kejriwal, which violate the provisions of the MCC” and “the present offence is a repeat of violation of MCC by him”, the Commission noted.
While talking to TV channels, the West Delhi MP had called Mr Kejriwal a terrorist and subsequently, the Aam Aadmi Party had filed complaint against him in the Commission.
Mr Sahib Singh Verma, however, denied the allegation and said that he had never cast vitriolic aspersions against Delhi Chief Minister and that the video did not reflect the correct picture.
The Commission did not agree to his argument and decided to put ban on him for one day.
