New Delhi, Mar 18 (UNI) BJP leader and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said that Congress and its chief Rahul Gandhi mock Hinduism.
Responding to the allegation by Congress President Mr Gandhi at the party's plenary, Ms Sitharaman said that his speech sounded like rhetoric of a person, devoid of substance.
'The Congress President and his party lose no opportunity to mock the Hindu religion and its rituals. The story he narrated of some priest asking him for a wall of gold for the temple is an example. This is a party that has questioned the very existence of Shri Rama. I would only suggest that he not go to quack priests, but genuine ones,' Ms Sitharaman said at a press conference, after Mr Gandhi's speech at the 84th Congress Plenary.
The Defence Minister slammed Mr Gandhi for 'mocking' Hinduism.
'I have never heard of a 'Congress' priest and a 'BJP' priest, but Mr Gandhi has narrated a whole story on that, just a way to mock the Hindus and the Hinduism,' she said.
Ms Sitharaman termed as fake narrative, the attempts to share Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's name with fugitive jeweller Nirav Modi.
'Mr Gandhi pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi shares a name with Nirav and Lalit Modi, is an attempt at a fake narrative. Mr Gandhi, who is out on bail in the National Herald case, shares a surname with the Father of the Nation, is that a reflection on the Mahatma? I'm not comparing PM with Mahatma Gandhi, just the spuriousness of the comparison,' she said.
Castigating the Congress for training its gun towards party president Amit Shah, Mr Sitharaman said 'Rahul Gandhi is out on bail in the National Herald case. He talks about an allegation about our National President Amit Shah, which is cleared by the court.'
Mr Gandhi, in his speech, had drawn parallels with the Mahabharata, saying the BJP fought for power like the Kauravas.
Mr Gandhi compared the Congress to the protagonists of the Mahabharata, the Pandavas and said they had fought for the truth.
"Thousands of years ago, there was a huge battle on the fields of Kurukshetra. The Kauravas were extremely well organised, had huge army money, but arrogant. The Pandavas had a small army, but humble and fought for the truth," he said.
