New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) India on Thursday urged China to "scrupulously" respect the mutual understanding on boundary disputes and also to ensure that each sides project the position of other side "accurately". "....It is important that these understandings are scrupulously respected by both sides and that each side projects the position of other side accurately," the MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters here. He was answering a question on how would India react to a recent statement by a spokesman of Chinese foreign ministry that a part of Sikkim state still remained disputed. The MEA spokesman said the government of India is seized of the matter and comments from the Chinese official. "Negotiations for the settlement of the India-China boundary question are held at the level of the special representatives of the two countries. Based on the understanding, these meetings are held from time to time....The most recent common understanding between the special representatives was reached in 2012," he said adding thus it is "important" that these understandings are "scrupulously" respected. The comments from Indian foreign ministry spokesman comes in the wake of recent remarks by the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying that: "The Sikkim sector of the China-India boundary has been delimited by the historical treaty of 1890, and the Nathu La has been the best witness testifying to this fact". "The Chinese side is willing to jointly uphold peace and tranquillity in the border areas with the Indian side on the basis of observing historical treaties and the relevant agreements and accords between the two sides", the Chinese spokesman has said. To a question on any development in Doklam sector, the MEA spokesman said, "there are no new developments" and added that since August 28 "disengagement - the status quo prevails".
