New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Even as the ongoing farmers agitation continues to paralyze law and order machinery, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that new dimensions were being added to agriculture and its related activities and the agricultural reforms announced by the government had not only unshackled farmers but also given them new rights and opportunities.
Speaking in his ‘Mann ki Baat’’ programme the Prime Minister said agricultural reforms in the past few days had opened new doors of possibilities for farmers and the demands made by them for years, that every political party at some point made the promise to fulfill, had been met.
After a lot of deliberation, the Parliament had given legal form to agricultural reforms which not only served to unshackle the farmers, but also gave them new rights and opportunities. In just a short span of time, these new rights had begun to ameliorate the woes of farmers, he said.
Referring to the issue off stubble burning which causes immense levels of pollution in Delhi each year the Prime Minister said work is being done on a massive scale to find solution to this issue,
He cited the example of one Virendra whose efforts showed a new way forward. Virendra bought a Straw Baler machine to make bundles of straw. For this, he received financial assistance from the Agricultural department. With this machine he made bundles of stubble which he sold the stubble to agro energy plants and paper mills. In just two years, Virendra had traded in stubble in excess of Rupees 2.5 crore and earned a profit of approximately Rupees 50 lakh.. The benefit of this also accrues to the farmers of those fields from where Virendra sources his stubble.
