Two women in Mizoram jailed for pangolin scales smuggling

Aizawl, Mar 21(UNI) Two women in Mizoram have been jailed for their involvement in the smuggling of pangolin scales.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Kolasib district Margaret Lalramchhani said Lalzuithangi,( 41), from Champhai town, and Vanlalzawni,( 42_, from Zemabawk neighborhood in Aizawl, were arrested from Shillong in Meghalaya by Range Officers of Kolasib and Vairengteon March 14. They were brought to Kolasib on March 16 and then remanded to judicial custody at the district jail.
Lalzuithangi is wanted by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Government of India, and has been linked to smuggling activities involving tigers and pangolins. The investigation revealed that Laldaniela of Happy Valley, Shillong was involved in smuggling pangolin scales, and further investigation led to the arrest of the two women involved in the international wildlife smuggling racket.
