Guwahati, Jul 16 (UNI) The flood situation in Assam further deteriorated as the death toll as well as number of affected population increased since last evening.
An Assam State Disaster Management Authority bulletin this morning informed that two deaths were reported since last evening, taking the overall death toll to 68.
The number of affected population also increased by over one lakh to reach 36,42,546 this morning.
Over 37,000 people were taking shelter in 247 relief camps in different districts of the state.
As many as 26 districts remained affected, with 91 revenue circles and 3,363 villages and localities reeling under waters.
Altogether eight major rivers were flowing above the danger level across the state, including the Brahmaputra in five places and Kopili in two places.
Personnel of NDRF and SDRF are assisting local administrations in rescue and relief operations, with 295 people being evacuated since last evening.
The NDRF are positioned in eight locations in the state, while the SDRF at 40 different locations.
