NHRC recommends Odisha govt.to pay Rs.1 lakh compensation to a tribal for forced family planning

Kendrapara, Mar 2 (UNI)The National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) has recommended Odisha government to pay a compensation of Rs.1 lakh and ensure the recanalization operation of a speech-impaired unmarried tribal youth who was subjected to a family planning operation forcibly without following due procedure.
Adjudging a petition filed by Rights Activist Radhakanta Tripathy, the NHRC passed the order on March 1 last after receiving reports from the State Government.
Tripathy in his petition alleged that health officials of Maithili Sub-Divisional Hospital, Malkangiri District of Odisha had performed a vasectomy on August 3, 2023 on one Divyang (dumb) unmarried youth Ganga Durua, of a Scheduled Tribe community of Kosarbata village for the sake of highlighting increased cases of vasectomies in the area.
