CAA, a tool for religious divide: Tripura CPI(M)

CAA, a tool for religious divide: Tripura CPI(M)

Agartala, Mar 13 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition, and CPI(M) State Secretary of Tripura, Jitendra Chaudhury, accused the central government on Wednesday of persuading activities beyond the constitution, like issuing notification of rules for the implementation of the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 ahead of the Lok Sabha poll, to polarize the vote along religious lines.
Chaudhury said, “The whole country is against the CAA because it is not according to our Constitution. It was passed in 2019, but for the last four years, PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah could not execute it, apprehending the reaction. But, just before the general election, it was implemented just to instigate Hindu sentiment.”
The Indian constitution has given equal rights to all without any religious bias, and the country is recognized across the world as 'secular’. No citizen is required to mention his or her religious belief in any administrative work, including buying land in the country, which has been the beauty of India’s integration, but CAA posed a threat to it, Chaudhury observed.
