Police asked to take action against candidate for threatening Manipur CM

Imphal, Apr 3 (UNI) The District Election Officer (DEO) of Imphal East, Kh Diana, has asked SP Imphal West to take legal action against Moirangthem Totomshana Nongshaba, an independent candidate of Inner Manipur constituency, for allegedly making a derogatory statement against the Chief Minister of Manipur by violating the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct during a television discussion on Tuesday.
The DEO said legal action should be taken under the provisions of Sections 500, 503, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, read with Section 125 of the Representation of People Act, 1951.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has asked the Chief Electoral Officer to take action against the Chief Minister for holding meetings in his official residence. The Congress has also submitted documents alleging the issuance of job notifications for 1140 posts in the Education Department and other violations for taking up activities in the Social Welfare Department and providing financial assistance after the announcement of election dates.
