BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari leaves for Sandeshkhali

Kolkata, Feb 29 (UNI) West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, following a court order, left for Sandeshkhali on Thursday in North 24 Parganas district to meet the local villagers, especially the women who had been allegedly sexually harassed and dispossessed of their land by some ruling Trinamool Congress leaders, including Shahjahan Sheikh.
Meanwhile, Shahjahan has been arrested by the West Bengal police from Minakhan and sent to 10-day police custody after being produced before the Basirhat District and Sessions court on Thursday morning.
A report from Sandeshkhali said the women in the region celebrated the arrest of Shahjahan by distributing sweets, bursting crackers and ululating to invoke the good omen. They also raised the slogan "Bharat Mata Ki Jay".
