Darjeeling/New Delhi, Jul 20 (UNI) A delegation of MPs from Bengal comprising Union Ministers Debasree Chaudhuri and Babul Supriyo, RS MP Swapan Dasgupta and Darjeeling MP Raju Bista today met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital and requested for his immediate intervention to control the highly charged situation in Chopra, which can lead to disturb peace in the entire North Bengal region.
" As word spread about the death of a 15-yr-old girl child spread, thousands of people from her village and nearby villages held protest demanding justice and swift arrest of the perpetrators, " Mr Bista said.
" Instead of arresting the suspects, we have been informed that police used disproportionate force to dispel the protestors, resulting in over 60 locals having sustaining serious injuries, " he added.
