Tripura detects 5330 AIDS patients including 550 students

Agartala, Mar 14 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday urged the teachers to be vigilant about the behaviour of the students in the classroom beyond the syllabus to prevent the spike of HIV infection and drug use.
Saha, who was addressing the teaching community in the AIDS sensitisation programme here organised by Tripura AIDS Control Society (TACS), said 558 students of various schools have so far been identified as infected with HIV positive among a total of 5330 including 1033 females in Tripura.
A dangerous trend of consuming drugs through veins by sharing the same syringe among teenage students has been increasing day by day, he stated.
