Assam detects over 1600 new cases; active cases cross 8600

Guwahati, Jul 22 (UNI) Assam recorded it's highest single day spike yet in number of new COVID 19 positive cases with 1680 patients detected on Tuesday.
This has pushed the overall tally to 26772, state Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma informed through Twitter late in the night.

Among the new cases, 570 were from main city Guwahati, while Jorhat district accounted for 167 and Cachar for 159.

The death toll in COVID 19 also rose by six to reach 64,meanwhile, 938 patients were discharged from different hospitals during the day, taking the number of recovered patients to 18033.
The number of active COVID 19 cases in the state stands at 8672.
