Cong alleges poll code violation by Assam CM, urges ECI to take action

Guwahati, Mar 21 (UNI) The Assam Congress on Thursday wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of violating the election code of conduct.
Assam Pradesh Congress committee president Bhupen Bora mentioned in the letter that the Chief Minister, on March 18, 2024, while addressing the media, claimed that all the candidates of Indian National Congress party would join BJP if he wished. He further commented that all Congress candidates will join BJP even if they win the election, and therefore there is no point in casting votes in favour of Congress. The statement of the Chief Minister of Assam got wide publicity, and it is sending the wrong message amongst voters in general. This, according to us, violates the Model Code of Conduct.
Sarma is making outrageously false statements that are not backed by any proof. He is trying to influence voters' choices, which is not in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct. Additionally, by making these statements, he is also attempting to lure Congress candidates, which again is not in line with the conduct of free and fair elections, as added by Bora in the letter.
