Inter-tribe clash claims 1 life in Nagaland

Kohima, Nov 20 (UNI) Police launched a series of raids at Thongtso village under Noklak district at the suspected locations and seized four weapons after the pre-dawn attack by some armed miscreants where one person was killed on the spot while another was injured in an alleged attack by miscreants in the early hours on Wednesday last.

According to a press statement issued by the PRO Tuensang Police, additional security forces along with police personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed at strategic locations in and around the affected place to prevent further escalation of violence.
On Wednesday, DGP Nagaland along with Commissioner of Nagaland and IGP (R) rushed to Tuensang to take stock of the situation.
The officials held a prolonged meeting with the DCs and SPs of Tuensang and Noklak at C/Saddle Assam Rifles camp. The PRO said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the orders of DGP Nagaland T. John Longkumer, to probe into the November 18 incident at Thongtsou village under Noklak district, to ensure a speedy and fair investigation.
In the incident, one person was killed and another injured while several houses were also burned down.

The PRO said that a criminal case has been registered at Thonoknyu Police Station and the DGP had also warned that those involved in the dastardly attack would be brought to book and stern action would be taken against those found guilty, as per the law.

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) also extended financial assistance to the affected families through their representatives.
The ENPO representatives visited the affected areas and held a series of meeting with the tribal leaders to resolve the issue amicably.
It was viewed that the incident may have been sparked by a long-pending land dispute.
Noklak district officials along with leaders of various tribal bodies and other organisations held an emergency meeting to diffuse the situation and prevent further escalation of violence, sources said.
