CID files chargesheet in Debendra Nath Ray's case

Kolkata, Sep 12 (UNI) The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal has filed chargesheet in Hemtabad BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray’s death case, concluding it was a case of abetment to suicide, conspiracy and cheating.
According to sources in West Bengal CID, the charge sheet read, “Charge Sheet filed U/S 306/ 420/ 120(B)/ 34 IPC has been submitted against accused - Niloy Sinha of English Bazar, Malda district and Mabud Ali of Chanchal, Malda district. Both have been charged with abetment to suicide, conspiracy and cheating.”
Earlier, West Bengal CID has registered a murder case under Section 302 IPC (Indian Penal Code) into the death of Hemtabad MLA Debendra Nath Ray. The case was filed following the complaint of the deceased’s wife.
The CPI(M)-turned-BJP leader was found hanging outside a shop near his residence in Bindal village in North Dinajpur district on July 13.
The post-mortem report has stated that Ray “died due to hanging and no injury mark was found on his body".
The State BJP has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of trying to "project the murder as suicide". The saffron party has called for a CBI probe into Ray's death case.
West Bengal Police have claimed that they have found a 'suicide note' from the deceased's pocket, in which he has blamed two people for his death.
However, the family of Debendra Nath Ray and BJP members have alleged it was a "cold-blooded murder by Trinamool Congress". The ruling party has vehemently denied the allegations.
BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya, Arvind Menon, Babul Supriyo, Swapan Dasgupta and Raju Bista met President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan and demanded dismissal of Mamata Banerjee government in Bengal.
Vijayvargiya said, "Democracy has been hanged in West Bengal. Political workers were being killed so far, and now elected leaders are being murdered and shown to have committed suicide. Anarchy prevails in the state, and its government has no right to be in power... We have demanded that the assembly be dissolved."
The BJP delegation also called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded a CBI probe into Ray's death case. The saffron party had observed a 12-hour long bandh in north Bengal .
Reacting to the allegations of BJP, The TMC said, "the BJP should desist from doing petty politics".
Bengal Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said circumstantial evidence and post-mortem report said Ray's death was a suicide.
"The death was due to the effects of hanging as noted above-antemortem in nature. Further information, if any, will be provided after the receipt of the chemical examiner's report".
