Five days budget session of Tripura begins

Agartala, Mar 1 (UNI) The five days budget session of Tripura Legislative Assembly began on Friday amid speculations of an imminent announcement of the Lok Sabha elections in a couple of weeks.
The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has suggested holding the session till March 5, which includes a two days holiday on Saturday and Sunday. Finance Minister Pranajit Singharoy will table the 2024–25 financial year budget proposal, which is expected to announce some bonanza-keeping elections in mind.
While opposition TIPRA Motha, CPM, and Congress demanded to extend the session at least for two more days to cover a week cycle of five working days that will give the opportunity to discuss all the departments, parliamentary affairs minister Ratan Lal Nath said the government doesn’t have sufficient business to transact.
Besides presenting the budget for 2024–25, a bill to amend the Tripura Public Demand Recovery Act. The opposition Motha legislators have said they will highlight their demand of Roman script for the Kokborok language, the ongoing demonstration for empowerment of the Tripura Autonomous District Council, and a constitutional solution of the problems of indigenous communities.
“A large number of tribal people sat in demonstrations on Baramura Hill along the National Highway 8 for the last three days to press for the demand. Tripura royal scion and TIPRA Motha founder was called to Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the issues but has yet to settle the matter. As a result, the agitation is going on. We want the state government to take the lead to end the fiasco,” said Congress legislator Birajit Sinha.
