Life affected in Manipur due to protest against 1949 merger agreement

Imphal, Sep 21 (UNI) Normal life was completely affected in Manipur due to a day-long general strike called by the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) to protest the signing of a merger agreement between Manipur and government of India on 21 Sep 1949 which led to annexation of Manipur on 15 Oct 1949.
All educational institutes, business establishments were closed down due to the strike. Most of the inter and intra state passenger services were also cancelled. Streets were also deserted. Security measures were taken up to ensure that no untoward incident took place.
The NRFM had called the strike to oppose the confinement of the then Manipur King Boddhachandra at one of his residency at Shillong and forcing him to sign the Manipur Merger Agreement.
