Mother, daughter drown in Meghalaya river bordering Bangladesh

Shillong, Oct 14 (UNI) A mother and her minor daughter drowned after their wooden boat capsized while two others escaped from the water at Umngot River in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district, bordering Bangladesh on Wednesday morning, police said.
A police official said that the tragic incident occurred when the mother and her three daughters were fishing from a boat on Wah Umngot River in Shnongpdeng village and the boat capsized at a place known to the local people as ‘Lad Lad’.
"Julias Lymba and her eight-year-old daughter Tariang Lymba were swept away by the high current while Jill Swer (17) and Isynei Lymba(23) managed to swim to safety," Bkiram D. Marak, the district police chief of West Jaintia Hills District, said.
