'Talks with Naga groups will not affect Manipur' : CM Biren

Imphal, Aug 13 (UNI) Chief Minister N Biren Singh today assured that ongoing talks
between the central government and various Naga groups will not disturb Manipur.
He said the Central had assured that the opinions of the people of Manipur will
be heard before finalising any final agreement between Government of India and
NSCN (IM).
Mr Biren said as a fall out of the truce the territorial integrity of Manipur will not be
affected.
He was interacting with the media during the observation of Patriots day at Hicham
Yaicham pat here today.
Various organisations of Manipur have opposed any decision to disturb peace and
harmony and territorial integrity of Manipur while trying to solve a problem of a
neighbouring state.
The state witnessed series of stirs, most prominently the June 18 uprising of 2001
in which 18 people died after the central government decided to extend the truce zone
between government and the militant outfit NSCN (IM) beyond Nagaland.
Later the decision was rescinded.
