'We aim to be India's first waste management & sustainable alternative brand': Gaurav Pokle

By Anil Mishra
Panaji, Nov 12 (UNI) Environment conservation has been a major concern since a long time and there has always been a cry to opt for or make some products that are environment friendly, sustainable or bio- degradable. The problem of proper waste disposal and waste management is at an increase and, with a busy lifestyle seriousness of the situation is being sidelined.
Keeping this in mind, Inovativa Waste Aid and Management Pvt Ltd, a startup company based in Goa, has launched 'YIMBY’ (‘Yes In My Back Yard), a waste management consumer brand.
Speaking exclusively to UNI, Gaurav Pokle, Founder Inovativa Waste Aid and Management Pvt Ltd and YIMBY brand, said,''We are very much excited to be India’s first waste management consumer center and we hope that through this initiative we can not only create awareness but also execute our vision of sustainability across the country since our nation is rapidly growing and we as a nation are constantly changing towards a better, self-sufficient future.''
When asked how serious was the problem of waste in Goa and how did he think that can be addressed, he said, ''Apart from solid natural waste, there are other types of man-made wastes that are more hazardous to the environment. Cell phone, for instance are made of lead, mercury and plastic and so many millions of them get thrown as garbage. We fail to understand that our waste is a resource to someone and there are businesses and individuals making their living out from trash recycling. If this trash can be channelized as a resource to recyclers a lot of non-biodegradable and recyclable waste could be avoided getting into our waterbodies, ecosystem and landfills.''
On challenges faced while starting a start up company, Mr Pokle said,''India lacks a clear long-term start-up roadmap, as economic liberalization is quite new to India. Procuring talented labor with a top to bottom learning of the concerned field, frequently ends up troublesome. Experienced people, then again, don’t want to include themselves with the hazard inclusion of new startup companies. It’s a tough issue and a lasting issue.''
About ease of doing business in the state, he said, ''Waste management is of the most unorganized and neglected subject, but we have understood that this perspective and our action towards waste is slowly and steadily changing. We could see waste generators looking for waste minimization and eco-friendly alternatives, individuals and societies are looking to compost their waste. State authorities are also taking steps towards handling waste and adopting policies for better management.''
When asked was lack of awareness a problem in waste management and if yes, then what should be done to address the same, Mr Pokle said, ''it is not lack of awareness.. it is less of consciousness of our actions. We all know that littering is bad, Segregation is important but still we choose to do the opposite, only because we choose convenience over environment. We intend to bring this self consciousness by conducting cleanup drives, workshops on composting, school educational programs that involve students in gathering information on hazards post littering.''
Sharing future plans of the company, he said, ''We aim to be India's first waste management and sustainable alternative brand with our venture's brand name – "YIMBY" that will channelize this unorganized sector by bringing in all stakeholders, Such as products, alternatives, awareness and technology all under one roof. Our aim is to make this very own Goan brand a promising waste management consumer centre with over 500 outlets in next six years.''
