NE's first anthology film screened

Guwahati, Apr 19(UNI) The first-of-its-kind anthology film in North East, 'Ji Golpor Ses Nai' (Never Ending Stories), had a special screening here yesterday.
After more than 80 years of Assamese Cinema, an anthology film has been produced from the region.
The film has been produced by Pallabi Borah, Krishna Kalita and Namrata Datta for Arc Lights, R S Studio and U D Foundation respectively.
'Ji Golpor Ses Nai' consists of three shorts with the central theme being isolation from others or loneliness.
The first is 'Ardha Satya', directed by Prodyut Kumar Deka, based on story written by Guy de Maupassant and starring Pankaj Mahanta and Kalpana Kalita.
The second is 'Epitaph', directed by Prasant Saikia and written by Homen Borgohain with Himangshu Prasad Das playing the lead role.
The last is 'Prasnabudhok', directed by Utpal Datta, written by Honore de Balzac and starring Hemanta Debnath and Nandini.
The three filmmakers have used similar strategies to portray the emotion: people eating or drinking alone, isolating framing devices (characters gazing out of windows is a recurring motif), use of a diminishing long shot and empty spaces, and a dragging out of narrative time.
An anthology film is a sub-genre of films consisting of several different short films, often tied together by only a single theme, premise, or brief interlocking event.
'Sirikkathe', a Tamil film released in 1939, is considered the first anthology film in India.
