NCAP crash test: Tata Nexon secures five-star rating

Mumbai, Dec 7 (UNI) Tata Motors compact SUV TataNexon becomes first Indian car to get five star ratings in global car safety performance assessment NCAP’s crash test ratings on Friday.

This compact SUV from Tata Motors scored full points for Adult Occupant Protection and three stars for Child Occupant Protection.

Following the Nexon’s four-star result earlier this year, Tata Motors has improved a number of safety features including making a Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for driver and passenger a standard for all variants of the model.

In addition the Nexon was required to pass a side impact test meeting UN95 side impact protection requirements, the Nexon's has now secured five stars for adult occupant protection, scoring 16.06 points out of the total 17 as opposed to the 13.56 points notched up by the model when it was tested in August. This rating is valid for the units that will be produced from December 7, 2018 onwards.

The model offers good protection for both adult head and neck, marginal protection for the driver chest and adequate protection for passenger chest. The pedals showed some risk for the lower legs due to their displacement. The 18-month-old child dummy received good protection while the 3 year old child passenger showed high readings in chest and head exposure.

Commenting about this new achievement by the Nexon, Mr. Mayank Pareek, President -PVBU, Tata Motors, said, 'The Indian car-buyers are increasingly rating safety as one of the topmost parameters while making a car purchase. We are elated to receive the highest ever safety rating from Global NCAP, for the Nexon. The Global NCAP results are a reflection of our commitment towards keeping Safety as the first priority. With these test results, the Nexon becomes the first car in the country to achieve a full 5-star adult safety rating and emerges as India’s Safest Car, in terms of crash safety."
