SINGAPORE, Nov 14 (UNI) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President Mike Pence met in Singapore on Wednesday morning on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit.
External Affairs Ministry's official spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a tweet that the two leaders had a warm meeting during which ``productive discussion' took place on all aspects of global strategic partnership based on growing convergence of interests on regional and global issues.
Vice president Pence acknowledged that India had made progress economically, the ministry said.
Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in Singapore early Wednesday morning, has full day, packed with meetings lined up with a series of top leaders. Mr. Modi is on a two-day visit during which he will attend the East Asia Summit, an ASEAN-India informal meet.
The meeting with the US Vice President came a few weeks after US president Donald Trump rejected India's invitation to be the chief guest at 2019 Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, citing ``scheduling constraints.'
"The discussions between PM Modi and US vice president touched both upon bilateral relations, regional and international issues. Vice president Pence acknowledged that India had made progress economically. He felt India is a positive factor in regional and international relations," Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said.
Mr. Modi also met his Singapore counterpart Mr. Lee Hsien Loong on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit. ``Guiding India-Singapore Strategic Partnership. Good exchange of views on cooperation in financial technology, enhanced connectivity and regional economic integration,' the official spokesperson said in a tweet.
