New Delhi, Jan 20 (UNI) The Indian Army has contacted the People's Liberation Army (PLA) about an Arunachal Pradesh youth the Chinese troops allegedly abducted and sought its assistance to locate and have him returned to India, official sources said on Thursday.
"On receipt of information (about Miram Taron), the Indian Army immediately contacted the PLA through established mechanism of hotline informing that an individual, who was collecting herbs and hunting, has lost his way and cannot be found," sources in the defence establishment said.
"Assistance from PLA has been sought to locate the individual on their side and return him as per established protocol," the sources said.
The youth was allegedly abducted by the PLA from Lungta Jor area inside Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Siang district on Tuesday and his whereabouts are not known, BJP MP Tapir Gao claimed on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when two youths from Zido village, Miram Taron, 17, and Johny Yaying, 27, went out for hunting. Yaying escaped from the PLA and reported to the authorities, Gao told UNI.
Gao, who represents Arunachal East Lok Sabha constituency, urged the Indian government to secure his early release.
"I have briefed MoS (Minister of State for) Home Nisith Pramanik and urged him to look into the matter to ensure his early release," he said, adding he had apprised Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and the district administration.
The MP said the incident took place where China had built a 3-4 km long road inside India in 2018.
Meanwhile, former Union Minister and Congress MLA Ninong Ering asked the Centre to ensure the young man's release. "Chinese intrusion in our land must be checked," he added.
