Mirwaiz, Geelani under house arrest, Malik detained in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 25 (UNI) To foil protest march in summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, police put under house arrest chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, while detaining JKLF chairperson Mohammad Yaseen Malik.
A moderate HC spokesman said a large number of security forces and state police personnel have been deployed outside the Nigeen house of the Mirwaiz since early this morning.
Similarly, Geelani also remained under house arrest, a spokesman for hardline HC said, adding that security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside his Hyderpora residence.
A spokesman for the front said a large number of police and security force personnel arrested Malik from his Maisuma residence near here this morning. Though no reasons was given for the arrest, Malik was arrested and detained in police station Koathibagh to prevent him from leading a protest march in Srinagar against civilian killings in security force action and Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the valley.
However, officials said the arrest was made to prevent any law and order problem.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Malik have called for a general strike on Monday against the civilian killings and CASO and fresh arrest of youths in the valley.
