Minister inaugurates Intl Yoga Day

Puducherry, Jun 21 (UNI) Union minister of State for Food Processing industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi on Thursday inaugurated the fourth International Yoga Day celebrations in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Speaking on the occasion, she highlighted the importance of Yoga and its benefits to human kind.

As many as 3000 students participated and demonstrated Yoga on the beach road here. For nearly one kilometer, the students staged the yoga demonstration.

Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, his cabinet colleagues and senior officials of the territorial administration and among others participated in the function.

The Union Minister along with Ms Bedi later participated in a CME on Yoga at the Jipmer hospital here.

Meanwhile, Puducherry tourism minister Malladi Krishna Rao told news persons that the tourism department would extend funds to government schools for conducting yoga classes every day.
The tourism department in coordination with the education department will do the needful in this regard, he said, adding that the approval for the same would be obtained in the ensuing legislative assembly session.
