Miguel Diaz-Canel elected Cuba's new President, promises continuity

Havana, Apr 20 (UNI) The Cuban Parliament has elected Miguel Diaz-Canel as the country's new president for a term of five years. He replaces Raul Castro who concluded two consecutive terms in office.
The 1960 born Diaz-Canel, an electronics engineer and management post graduate, has been a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and a minister of higher education. In 2003, he was promoted as first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers.
In his first speech, he affirmed that Cuba will not make concessions against its sovereignty and independence, nor negotiate principles or accept conditions.
