Sensex ends at over 5-mn-high of 28,761.59 on firm global cues
Mumbai, Feb 21 (UNI) Maintaining a positive trend for the fourth
day today, the BSE Sensex rallied today by 100.01 points to end
at a five-and-a-half-month high of 28,761.59 on strong global
cues.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) also went up by
58.65 points to 8,907.85.
The Sensex edged higher by 55 points to 28,716.70 in early
trade. It then advanced by 140 points to 28,801, before closing
at 28,761.59, gaining by 100.01 points as compared to its last
close. It registered a day's low at 28,597, down by 64 points.
Key benchmark indices scored modest gains led by Materials,
Energy, Finance, Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas stocks. Scrips
of Axis Bank, Asian Ports and Reliance Industries supported the
market for the fourth day today.
Bulk of the upsurge was triggered in last hour of trade.
Cement stocks saw a mixed trend.
The BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.52 per cent. The BSE
Small-Cap index rose 0.46 pc. Both these indices outperformed the
Sensex.
The market breadth was positive on BSE, as 1,556 shares rose
and 1,270 fell while 181 others were unchanged.
The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 2,651.46 crore,
compared with a turnover of Rs 2,910.44 crore registered during
the previous trading session.
