Manipur Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen tests Covid positive

Imphal, Aug 25 (UNI) Nemcha Kipgen, Social Welfare Minister of Manipur, was today found Covid positive.
“After getting symptoms of coronavirus, I got myself tested and the report came back positive. I sincerely request all of you who came in contact with me in the past few days to kindly isolate yourselves and get yourselves tested," she said in a Twitter post.

She is the first minister and second legislator to be tested Covid positive.
She has no recent history of going outside the state.
Fajur Rehman a Congress MLA had tested positive after returning from New Delhi recently.
Local transmission has been confirmed in the state and there is spread of the virus in the city areas prompting the government to strictly implement lockdown.
The market which was opened for few days last week was closed down as two families running pharmacies in the heart of the city were found Covid positive.
There is rapid growth of Covid cases among people without travel history.
The cumulative number of positive cases is 5362 (General Population - 3939 and Central Security Personnel - 1423).
The total number of recovered cases is 3713 (General Population - 3078 and Central Security Personnel - 635).
The number of active cases is 1627 (General Population — 840 and Central Security Personnel - 787).
The recovery rate is 69.24% .
So far, 22 people have died due to coronavirus infection in the state.
