Manipur farmers fear loss of crop due to attacks by insects, pests

Imphal, May 13 (UNI) The crops in fear in Manipur are being attacked by various insects, pests leading to a scare of low productivity this year.
The Fall Army Worm (FAW) was detected in large numbers and unknown insect (moth) was also found by farmers, scientists and officials of State agriculture department.
The maize crops were being damaged in vast tracts of land in the valley areas of Manipur and most of the insects were fully grown and matured. The Indian council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Imphal has widened research and field works to help the farmers. Various samples were also sent to Indian Agricultural Research Institute and National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resource, Bengaluru for detailed report on the insects.
