Manipur: Congress to move disqualification case against seven MLAs in Supreme Court

Imphal, May 2 (UNI) The Congress party has decided to appeal to the Supreme Court regarding disqualification case of seven Congress MLAs who had joined the BJP.
K. Meghachandra, Congress MLA, one of the petitioners said the Apex Court had given a landmark judgement in the disqualification case under the Tenth Schedule on 21 Jan 2020. Following the directive from the Supreme Court , Manipur Speaker, Y Khemchand had dismissed former Minister Th Shyamkumar as a member of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Shyamkumar who won as a Congress MLA from Andro was sworn in as a minister in the N Biren Singh , BJP led government. Seven other Congress MLAs also joined the BJP. The Supreme Court on Jan 21 last directed the Speaker to take action within three months . Meghachandra said the three months period has lapsed and the Speaker has not taken any decision on the matter yet.
